Jeff ObatsaThis is to convey to you a happy July and to let you know that the staff of the Jesuit Historical Institute in Africa have returned to their duties after taking their usual break in June. It was a well-deserved rest and now they are more spirited and committed to the services they deliver. For the short span of time that this was in place, we would like to offer an apology to you in case it took a while for the team to respond to your inquiries.

With much anticipation, we are expecting two more events in the near future; The Librarians and Archivists Gathering scheduled for 22nd August at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) and the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM) Archivists Online Meeting on 10th September 2024. These meetings will provide opportunities for Archivists and Librarians to express their experiences, points of views, opinions, and may even suggest some possible solutions that may be important when dealing with challenges that may arise when performing their service. We are therefore inviting you to be more active and participate alongside us on this noble opportunity.

We are delighted to share with you that some new materials found their place in our collections due to our collaboration and the contribution made by our partners and donors. On behalf of the management and all the members of the staff, we take it as a great honor to express our sincere thanks to our sponsors for they have done a lot to reach this far goal of preserving our cultures and histories.

Along with the above-mentioned achievements, currently, a process of fundraising is underway in order to acquire large format digitization equipment which we believe will be very crucial in digitizing a number of collections which are available. The total cost of the equipment is $20,000. So far we have received $ 3000 towards the same activity.

On behalf of the editorial board of JHIA, we feel privileged to have your contribution to our projects. We wish you a joyous New Month and are looking forward to better activities of JHIA.

JHIA-Administrative Assistant.
